Concept2 Indoor Rowers are the training tool of the best riders in the dirt!

Concept2 Indoor Rowers

Today’s Motocross And Off-Road Heros Share A Common Denominator

September 15, 2009 – The best motocross and off-road riding schools in the world are using Concept2 Indoor Rowers to better prepare their riders for the high intensity and grueling demands of racing.

One such world-class motocross school leading the pack is the Millsaps Training Facility (MTF) in Cairo, Georgia. Under the watchful eye of Riding Coach Colleen Millsaps and Head Trainer Clint Friesen, the next stars of motocross are honing their skills as well as their fitness using Concept2 Indoor Rowers as part of their training. Indoor rowers are an integral part of the riders’ physical training because of their amazing ability to replicate the demands that racing places on the body.
Training for the disciplines of off-road motorcycle racing such as “enduro” and “hare scrambles” are where using the Concept2 Indoor Rower really shines. In races where riders are often riding non-stop for up to 3 hours at very high heart rates and trying to ward off fatigue, the Concept2 indoor Rower is perfect at preparing the riders. Two of off-road racing’s top names have started race schools where the Concept2 Indoor Rower helps students raise to the top. Shane Watts of “Dirtwise” riding school and Steve Hatch of “Steve Hatch Racing” recognize the need to increase both strength and endurance in their riders with indoor rowing.

As Steve Hatch explains, “The concept is simple, I respect time and if I can give my riders an advantage by putting them on a piece of equipment that is the best time spent to get their bodies into top form I want that piece of equipment! That is why I use the Concept2 Indoor Rower; it is honestly the best replication of racing a dirt bike and it allows us to train hard with maximizing time efficiently”.

In any motorsport event where strength to weight ratio is imperative, the Concept2 Indoor Rower is the best choice. Concept2 Indoor Rowers offer total-body functional movement that incorporate every muscle group throughout each stroke without impact on joints, which makes it ideal for anyone with knee issues that hinder their metabolic conditioning.

Concept2 has seen growth in many new areas of sport from mixed martial arts, motocross, off-road racing, Indy car and NASCAR to functional training protocols such as CrossFit and Gym Jones. The driving force behind this growth is the need for these athletes to possess amazing power, speed and endurance without added body mass that can slow the athlete down and cause them to tire too quickly. The “name of the game” in motor and action sports is to have a high strength-to-weight ratio in addition to good cardiovascular endurance. In any sport where there is a consequence of bodily injury stemming from muscular or endurance failure, an athlete has to choose the best piece of equipment to reach his or her goals – and indoor rowing is a proven way to achieve this.

Concept2 was founded by Dick and Peter Dreissigacker in 1976. Fresh from Olympic training, the two brothers designed and manufactured carbon fiber racing oars, then went on to create the world’s first airresistance indoor rower. Dreissigacker Racing Oars are now used by more than 70 percent of the rowing community. The Concept2 Indoor Rower has been redesigned and upgraded four times since the Model A was introduced in 1981. The Model D and Model E build on Concept2’s years of experience in designing and using rowing machines. For more information about Concept2, visit concept2.com.

$20,000 Raised in the Fight to Cure Breast Cancer at Steel City

MORGANTOWN, W.V. (September 11, 2009) – As the Lucas Oil AMA Pro Motocross Championship came to a close on the track, awareness for one of the deadliest diseases in the world was being raised off it with the second annual Race to Cure Breast Cancer. Fans, teams and riders all got into the spirit of PINK on Saturday, raising $20,000 for the Philadelphia Breast Cancer 3-day Walk, the Susan G. Komen Foundation for the Cure and the National Philanthropic Trust (NPT) Breast Cancer Fund.

The highlight of the event came from the Mystery Rider Auction, which brought in $11,700 thanks to memorabilia provided by series stars Ryan Dungey, Ashley Fiolek, Andrew Short and Ryan Villopoto. In addition to the bid amount for each of the riders’ items, the foursome donated an extra $1,000 apiece to support the cause.

Each mystery package featured exclusive items from each of the riders including helmets, jerseys, boots, gloves and a variety of other autographed paraphernalia along with special gifts from each of the riders’ personal sponsors.

“The amount of money achieved through the mystery auction is a testament to the amazing fans of motocross,” said the event’s director Shasta Johnson. “We have the most dedicated fan base in the world and it is their undying love of motocross and support of the industry that contributed to our success this year and I can’t thank them enough. I also want to give special thanks to all the riders who gave for a good cause. They are all role models and help make this the greatest series on the planet.”

Additionally, raffle tickets, cupcakes, wristbands were sold and donations were accepted, totaling in an impressive $7,330. Some of the raffle prizes included 10 Scott USA backpacks with swag from several series sponsors as well as a variety of signed products donated by teams such as JGRMX/Toyota/Yamaha and Monster Energy/Kawasaki as well as riders like Justin Barcia, Ricky Carmichael, Sherri Cruse, Broc Hepler, Davi Millsaps, Jessica Patterson, James Stewart, Ivan Tedesco, and Sarah Whitmore.

2009 450 Class Champion Chad Reed also got into the spirit, donating $999 of his own to help fight breast cancer.

The success achieved from Saturday’s Race to Cure Breast Cancer wouldn’t have been possible without the support of the individuals behind the scenes as over 20 volunteers lent a helping hand throughout the weekend.

All proceeds from the fundraiser support the Philadelphia Breast Cancer 3-day Walk which is a 60-mile walk to raise money for breast cancer. The net proceeds will support the combined efforts of the Susan G. Komen Foundation for the Cure and the National Philanthropic Trust (NPT).

On Wednesday August 26, 2009 about 2:30 P.M. State Police Troop D Danielson received information that racing equipment was stolen from the Unadilla event on or about August 14, 2009 and that equipment and bikes might be located at 660 Upper Maple Street in the town of Danielson, Conn.

US Endurocross Rnd 3, Florence, South Carolina, 12.9.2009

KTM Enduro Factory Team Red Bull rider Taddy Blazusiak remains unbeaten in the ‘09 US Endurocross series after claiming his third consecutive victory in Florence, South Carolina. Earning himself a hard fought win at the opening round of the championship in Las Vegas before then going on to dominate the second round of the series in Oklahoma, Blazusiak enjoyed a relatively straight forward night in South Carolina, despite failing to claim the holeshot in the main event.

Setting the fastest time during the qualifying hot lap session, Blazusiak moved through into the final with little trouble. Confident of a winning result the KTM factory rider quickly worked his way to the front of the race, where he remained until he claimed the chequered flag. Canadian Cory Graffunder put most pressure on Taddy but once past the mid-way stage of the race Blazusiak opened up a comfortable lead and remained unchallenged as he picked up win number three of the ‘09 US Endurocross season.

Taddy Blazusiak
: “Winning the first three rounds of the US Endurocross championship is great, things just keep going well for me. I went home for a few weeks after the second round of the series to rest a little and I’m feeling really good now. I put in a lot of work before the championship started and it’s starting to pay off now. I was confident that I could win again but you never know with Endurocross racing, anything can happen. I’m pretty pleased with the way I rode to be honest. Again, not making too many mistakes was important to me. I made a pretty good start and then just tried to stay as smooth as I could during the first half of the race. Once I past halfway I knew I was safe. Well, pretty safe. I have to say a big thanks to all my team.”

The next round of the US Endurocross series takes place in Columbus, Ohio on October 3.

Results – US Endurocross Rnd 3 ‘09

1. Taddy Blazusiak (KTM Enduro Factory Team)
2. Geoff Aaron (Christini/KTM)
3. Cory Graffunder (Husqvarna)
