“Bad Brad” Lackey Releases Video For Danny “Magoo” Chandler

Danny Magoo

1982 FIM 500cc World Champion, Brad Lackey viral video to promote awareness of the Danny “Magoo” Chandler Van Fund. eBay auction goes LIVE Friday, September 25, 2009

FULLERTON, CALIF. (September 24, 2009) – Brad Lackey has produced a broadband viral video on YouTube about how viewers around the world can help him and his motocross friends raise funds to build and purchase a custom, modified van for 1982 Motocross and Trophee des Nations Champion Danny “Magoo” Chandler.

The brief video includes Lackey’s recollections about Chandler, a fellow Northern California racer, a recap of Chandler’s accomplishments and a painful glimpse of tragic 1985 Paris Supercross crash that ended Chandler’s career and changed his life forever. Lackey also discussed how today Chandler is working with younger motorcycle riders to learn to ride safer and better. Sadly, Chandler’s own basic transportation needs are sorely lacking and he’s in dire need of a solution; a solution that Lackey believes is a van equipped so that Chandler can maintain the work that he’s dedicated himself to.

Great footage from Danny’s DVD “Magoo – The Story of Danny Chandler” is also included as well as photos of the type of van Brad and friends are working so hard to purchase. Lackey hopes to raise between $75,000 and $100,000 to complete the project and establish the necessary maintenance and insurance funds. Thus far, about 25% of the proceeds have been raised.

“Jody Weisel at Motocross Action magazine suggested this idea could be a way to reach a larger audience and we all said ‘Yeah, let’s do it!,” said Brad Lackey. “Our hope is that this video goes around the world, and reaches many of the fans and industry people who Danny touched with his incredible riding ability and personality. We encourage everyone who knows Danny and knows people who know Danny, to send the video link to their friends.” Lackey added.

The video has information on how to donate through traditional means as well as the internet though www.LegendsAndHeroesTour.org. It also announces an eBay auction beginning on September 25th, 2009, featuring memorabilia from riders Bob Hannah, David Bailey, Tony DiStefano, Jim Holley, Jason Lawrence, Davi Millsaps, Brad himself, and more.

For more information, see the video and to donate visit:

Former AMA Supercross Lites Champ Lusk Comes out of Retirement to Race Rockstar Energy Drink U.S. Open

AURORA, Ill. (September 24, 2009) – Feld Motor Sports℠ announced today that former 1994 Eastern Regional AMA Supercross Lites class champion Ezra Lusk will come out of retirement to compete at the Rockstar Energy Drink U.S. Open inside Las Vegas’ MGM Grand Garden Arena October 9-11.

Lusk, who retired in 2004 following the Washougal AMA Motocross National, has 12 AMA Supercross class wins and seven AMA Supercross Lites class wins. Riding a MB1/Tokyo Mods Suzuki, Lusk returns to the track very optimistic.

“I am not sure what to expect at this race,” said Lusk. “I never stopped riding, just racing, so I have had plenty of seat time and excellent training. This is a great opportunity for me to showcase what I have. It’s going to be tough just making it to the main event, but this is a unique race. History shows that the fastest guy doesn’t always win the overall.”

After retiring from professional racing, Lusk fueled his competitive edge on the amateur tennis circuit in Georgia and Florida, returning to a game he grew up playing. The same can be said about his return to racing.

“Going back to playing tennis was a natural transition because I played so much when I was younger. I hope the same holds true at this year’s Rockstar Energy Drink U.S. Open.”

Lusk joins defending Rockstar Energy Drink U.S. Open champion James Stewart, former Rockstar Energy Drink U.S. Open champion Chad Reed and former Rockstar Energy Drink U.S. Open runner-up Kevin Windham at this year’s race.

Tickets for the 2009 Rockstar Energy Drink U.S. Open are available at Ticketmaster locations, Carter Powersports (located at 6275 South Decatur Blvd. Las Vegas, NV  89118) the MGM Grand Garden Arena box office, www.ussx.com or by phone at (800) 745-3000.

Yamaha Continues to Support Safe, Responsible OHV Access Efforts Nationwide

OHV Access Initiative

$100,000 in GRANTs for Tread Lightly!, Blue Ribbon Coalition, Off-Road Business Association and NOHVCC Support National OHV Programs

CYPRESS, Calif. – September 23, 2009 – Yamaha Motor Corp., U.S.A., through its successful OHV Access Initiative, continues to support landmark programs directed by the country’s most prominent outdoor recreation organizations which are leading national efforts to promote safe, responsible riding and sustainable, open riding areas nationwide.

A total of more than $100,000 in funds are being contributed through separate Yamaha OHV GRANTs to Tread Lightly!, the Blue Ribbon Coalition, the Off-Road Business Association (ORBA) and the National OHV Conservation Council (NOHVCC).

“The OHV Access Initiative has made fantastic strides from the grassroots perspective creating and maintaining responsible riding opportunities for local OHV communities,” said Mike Martinez, Yamaha’s general manager of ATV and Side-by-Side Operations. “Yamaha’s ability to also support these national projects, combined with our on-the-ground work through dealers and regional staff, continue to elevate the effectiveness of the OHV Access Initiative. The programs we’re supporting through the national organizations address issues that impact OHV enthusiasts from coast to coast.”

The Yamaha OHV Access Initiative’s National Partners For 2009

Tread Lightly! – Funding the development of a template for recreational maps for the U.S. Forest Service and Bureau of Land Management properties and the Respected Access Campaign.

ORBA – Funding the organization’s efforts to assist in crafting legislation to protect OHV recreation in the California desert.

NOHVCC – Funding the organization’s popular land management workshops webinars and compendium video modules.

Blue Ribbon Coalition – Funding efforts to support the implementation of the new federal travel management policy on U.S. Forest Service and Bureau of Land Management properties.

“We are grateful to Yamaha for creating the OHV Access Initiative as a resource to help protect public lands for safe and responsible motorized recreational use,” said Lori McCullough, executive director of the nonprofit Tread Lightly!. “Educating OHV enthusiasts on best practices for land stewardship is essential to maintaining and, hopefully, expanding sustainable riding opportunities for everyone to enjoy.”

About the Yamaha OHV Access Initiative

Each quarter, Yamaha accepts applications from non-profit or tax-exempt organizations including OHV riding clubs, national forests and associations, and national, state and local government agencies. A committee then reviews each application and awards GRANTs to deserving projects.

Examples of appropriate projects for GRANTs include, but are not limited to:

  • Trail development, restoration and maintenance
  • Trail signage and map production
  • Staging area construction, renovation and maintenance
  • Land stewardship, trail safety and education

Updated guidelines, an application form and information on the OHV Access Initiative are available at the newly redesigned web site: www.yamaha-motor.com/ohvaccess.
